Sameer Africa Environmental Policy

We have a guiding policy which focusses on 3 main objectives.

  • Continual Improvement

We integrate appropriate environmental activities in all our operations and strive for continual improvement by using our policy as the framework for establishing and reviewing clearly defined objectives and targets, which are communicated to our employees, suppliers and other interested parties.

  • Pollution Prevention

We strive to minimize any adverse impact on the air, water, and land by continuing to:

• Reduce and where practical eliminate waste using source reduction

• Explore recycle/re-use options

• Use best available preventive and corrective techniques.

  • Legal Compliance

We demonstrate our corporate citizenship by adhering to legal and other requirements that affect how we manage our environmental aspects.

Key Priorities

We keep track of what is measured and what needs improving. We track our progress through the Environmental Management Programs, the key priorities being:

Minimizing Waste

Suitable use of material and use of sustainable methods of waste separation both from Sameer Africa’s material management practices. Our goal is to extend the usable life of resources through re-use, recycle options and by eliminating waste. We segregate waste at source. Waste generated in various production processes like used oil, metals, hazardous waste are disposed off through registered and licensed recyclers/refiners/re-processors only; we ensure they are handled as per the statutory requirements of NEMA.

Addressing Non Conformances

We are working on resolving non conformities as they arise, ensuring root causes have been established and addressed to ensure both corrective and preventive actions are in place.

Increase of Tyre Life

Prolonged use of tyres results in the limited release of used tyres into the environment. We have committed teams teaching drivers about tyre maintenance, inflating to correct pressures, rotation etc in an effort to enhance tyre life.

Used/Spent Tyre Handling

Each tire has a finite life in terms of original purpose. However they are extremely durable and although ozone will cause slight deterioration, they will persist in the environment for a long time because they are not affected by bacteria and are therefore, not biodegradable. Tyres are designed to ensure safety and performance for drivers and passengers on all types of road vehicles. Their inherent use demands indestructible tire design through the manufacture of different resilient components such as steel and rubber. These elements present considerable difficulties when tyres have reached the end of their useful lives and require disposal. 

To form part of the solution Sameer Africa has taken a lead role in working with the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) and other stakeholders to finalize a plan on the disposal of spent tyres. The team has finalized draft regulations which will be key in setting the rules concerning spent tyres.

Responsible Waste Management

We practice waste segregation at source. Each work station is provided with 4 conspicuously marked bins for this purpose. Each waste stream is handled separately at disposal. Classification covers general waste, metallic, plastic and hazardous waste.

Optimizing Energy consumption

We are implementing a series of energy conservation practices across Sameer Africa, enhancing awareness about energy conservation among employees and monitoring our energy spends.

Key energy conservation initiatives to be undertaken include:

  • Replacing outdated air conditioners with new efficient and ozone friendly machinery
  • Stringent monitoring of fuel consumption of our utilities
  • Usage of transparent roof sheets to save on lighting.
  • Enhancing awareness on energy conservation among employees



We continually monitor and manage particulate matter, VOCs, NOx and SOx emissions at our site. We undertake air quality measurements based on the impact on the air quality within the site.
